Description
2021 $1 Copper Uncirculated Coin - 110th Anniversary of Penny - WHJ Blakemore
Australia's first penny was introduced in 1911, two years after the Parliament passed a bill permitting Australia to have its own coins. The obverse featured an effigy of King George V designed by Sir E.B. Mackennal while the reverse design originally created by WHJ Blakemore, featured simple text. The version of the penny was minted between 1911 and 1936 in England, India and Australia.
This 2021 $1 Copper Uncirculated Coin marks the 110th anniversary of the introduction of the original penny to Australia's currency. The reverse features an adaptation of Blackmore's design and the obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Mary Gillick, the first portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to feature on an Australian coin.
