2021 $1 Copper Uncirculated Coin - 110th Anniversary of Penny - George Kruger Gray
Description
2021 $1 Copper Uncirculated Coin - 110th Anniversary of Penny - G.K. Gray
After the death of King George V in 1936, the obverse of all Australian coinage was replaced with the effigy of Kind George VI designed by Thomas H Paget. The revised penny would also feature the bounding kangaroo on the reverse, designed by George Kruger Gray. The coin's effigy would change one last time, when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II acceded to the throne after the death of her father in 1952.
Reminiscent of the original Australian penny, this 2021 $1 Copper Uncirculated Coin marks the 110th anniversary of the introduction of the original penny of the Australia's currency. The coin's reverse is an adaptation of Gray's design, which was in circulation from 1938 until the introduction of decimal currency.
