The 2020 Tokyo Paralympics will be held from 25 August to 6 September. Starting in 1948 as a competition for Second World War veterans, the Paralympic Games are now one of the largest international sporting events in the world. Australia has participated in every summer Paralympic Games since the first official games in 1960.
The Royal Australian Mint is proud to support our Paralympic athletes, with wheelchair rugby player Chris Bond acting as the Mint’s Paralympic Games Ambassador. Bond, who plays in Australia’s wheelchair rugby team the Steelers, is one of the world’s best wheelchair rugby players. He is a team leader in the Steelers, and has won gold medals at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
