HISTORY ANDSIGNIFICANCE
Since its launch in 1993, the annual Kangaroo Serieshas been one of the Royal Australian Mint’s mostpopular and enduring series. Using creative design,modern minting techniques and precious metals,it has been a celebration of the significance of thisuniquely Australian marsupial.
Over these years, the coins have celebrated thekangaroo’s presence in art, history and culture, witheach release showing a new perspective of thenation’s special affinity with the animal.
Since 2016, the series has featured the SeasonsChange set, documenting an Eastern Grey Kangaroogrowing throughout the seasons. The 2016 coin, setduring winter, featured a joey staying warm in hermother’s pouch. The spring months were depicted onthe 2017 coin, seeing the young kangaroo grazingamong the spring bloom with her mother. In 2018,the grown animal was seen finding shade among thetrees, waiting to see what the cycle of nature wouldhave in store in the months ahead.
