2013 $5 Centenary of Canberra Fine Silver Proof Coin
It’s Canberra’s 100th birthday this year, and the Royal Australian Mint has created a beautiful coin to help celebrate this momentous milestone.
When Walter Burley Griffin’s ambitious and ultimately triumphant design for Australia’s federal capital began with the laying of the foundation stones in 1913, even the most optimistic champion of the city’s development could not have foreseen the success of today’s Canberra.
A thoroughly modern seat of government, innovation and culture, Canberra also represents many facets of Australia’s social, artistic, military, multicultural and indigenous history in its people, places and many unique treasures.
A special coin holder has been made available within the packaging to allow collectors to insert the 20c circulating commemorative coin once they find it in their change – this will make it a unique Centenary of Canberra set.
