2001 PNC $1 Centenary of Australian Army Stamp and Coin Cover
Description
2001 PNC $1 Centenary of Australian Army Stamp and Coin Cover
The Australian Army was formed on 1 March 1901 when naval and military forces of each state were transferred to the control of the Commonwealth of Australia.
The cover shows the 13th Australian Light Horse in France in 1918. The two stamps feature historical and contemporary images of the Army. These include, on the historical stamp, scenes of the Army's activities in World War II. The main image on the stamp illustrating the contemporary army is Trooper Church in Rwanda in 1995 during a United Nations peacekeeping exercise. Trooper Church was tragically killed just a year later in the Tawnsville Black Hawk accident. The background features officers at Marangaroo Barracks, Lithgow NSW in 1997.
