Australia has been producing proof year sets ever since decimal currency was introduced in 1966.
Proof coins are the same as those we see in our change, but are struck with specially prepared machinery on specially prepared blanks - the designs always stand out magnificently.
Demand for memorabilia was in a boom period leading up to the and during the change of Millennium, coin sets were particularly popular as they were officially produced by the Australian government.
The proof set issued in 2000 had a true first for an Australian coin - the 50 cent piece was the first Australian circulation coin to feature colour on it.
It's market value rose pretty much as soon as it sold out late in December 2000, and has stayed high pretty much since then - not bad for an item that's been out for close to two decades now.
The coins, case and certificate are all included and remain in excellent condition. Outer Shipper has crease lines on the lower face.
