The birth of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge second child HRH Princess Charlotte was met with the same level of celebration and joy world-wide, as the birth of Prince George.

To commemorate the birth of the newborn Royal baby and second child to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Catherine, the Royal Australian Mint will be releasing beautifully designed coins in fine silver and cupro nickel.
The release of these coins represent Australia’s long affiliation with the modern British monarchy, symbolic of the enduring ties between these two nations.

History and significance
As the first reigning monarch to ever visit Australia, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been one of Australia’s favourite Royal personages since her visit in 1954. Since its inception in 1965, the Royal Australian Mint has commemorated significant Royal events since that year with specially minted collector coins. From the Silver Jubilee in 1977 to the Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the British monarchy’s memorable milestones, marriages, accessions and anniversaries have been immortalised with special collector editions.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have come to grow their own international fanfare as seen with the media frenzy of the birth of their first baby, Prince George, which underlined the global popularity of the young British royals. The birth of their second child was met with the same level of celebration and joy world-wide.
