2014 1/2oz Silver Proof Stamp and Coin Set - The King George V - Centenary of Stamps

The centenary stamp is based on the original 1d King George V stamp that was first issued on 9 December 1913 in a limited edition intaglio version. The letterpress red 1d version was issued on 17 July 1914 and replaced the 1d Kangaroo and Map stamp.

The Perth Mint and Australia Post are proud to present this limited edition stamp-shaped coin, struck from 1/2oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality.

Measuring 30.50mm x 22.70mm this unusual stamp-shaped coin replicates the original 1d King George V stamp, which features a crown above an effigy of King George V in an oval shape, with a kangaroo and an emu. The red coloured background and the inscriptions AUSTRALIA, POSTAGE and ONE PENNY also feature in the design.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the 50c coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2014 year-date, and the monetary denomination on its obverse.

The set also includes an official 70 cent centenary stamp, which is based on the original red 1d King George V stamp design that was first issued in a limited edition intaglio version on 9 December 1913. The letterpress red 1d version was issued on 17 July 1914 and replaced the 1d Kangaroo and Map stamp.

No more than 2,500 of the King George V – Centenary of Stamps 2014 1/2oz Silver Proof Stamp and Coin Sets will be released.

The set is housed in a stunning wooden display case with illustrated shipper and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
