1937 Australian One Crown, George VI (Cleaned)

Obverse: T.H. Paget

Reverse: George Kruger Gray

Originally issued in 1937 to mark the coronation of George VI. Its commemorative appeal was lost when issued again in 1938.

For today's collector, both 1937 and 1938 crowns represent a particular challange if they are sought in high grade. The large fields of this coin are notorious for Detracting Marks. Quite often, a small row of what appears to be neatly arranged "tooth marks" are displayed. These were invariably caused by the handling process of freshly struck coins at the Mint. Trundling along a conveyer belt, they would drop into a collecting bucket. More often that not, the falling coins' reeded edge would heavily "ding" into other coins already resting face up.
